Black People vs. Niggas: Race, Class and the N-Word

Date: Thursday November 20th 2014

Time: 7-9pm

Place: New Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies @ The Drum, 144 Potters Lane, Birmingham, B6 4UU

The N-word is one of the most controversial in the English language and is widely debated within Black communities. Some feel the word is one of the most negative slurs that we should bury forever, whilst others have embraced it and it has been popularised in rap music.

In this event Dr Kehinde Andrews will explore the complicated history of the term and discuss the modern representations of the Nigga and the backlash against it. This will be an evening of debate, featuring an exclusive interview with American Hip Hop artist Immortal Technique, recorded when he was in Birmingham.

Event is free.

All are welcome but may be unsuitable for children.
